When tragedy strikes oftentimes people ask why? They struggle to accept why anyone would want to commit acts of murder, destruction and heartache. The answer is they are human beings with a sinful heart. The Bible is clear when it says "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" (Jeremiah 17:9) Oh yes people can do good things and the evil in their hearts may not always come out in a murder but its still there. This same evil is perpetrated by politicians, zealots, criminals — the arrogant, the depraved, the sick.

The form and weapon of evil may be unique. Yet, the heart of the evil perpetrator is exactly the same. It is devoid of good, devoid of God, devoid of humanity. It is when we recognize this clear fact that life is simplified. It is when we recognize this fact that we are able to understand when these horrific events occur, it is indeed evil at the core — the absence of God. When we deny Him we remove all standards. Right and wrong becomes no more than opinion and preference as opposed to sin. The first two commandments alone in Scripture are enough to eradicate all crime, all dishonesty and all injustice in the world. "Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.​

This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself." (Matthew 22:37-39) If the thought of having a heart like that is shocking and terrible it is but there is hope. Life even with such a heart and nature does does have a purpose. You were created by an Almighty God who despite our sinful nature gave us a way. All you need to do is to believe on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved. Too easy you say. I can become a christian and do whatever I like! oh no! The purpose of life is to glorify God for such a rich and free salvation. Your whole life then becomes alive with the goal of representing the One who saved you. This awesome gift cannot be earned. Life is priceless. All you can do is fall on your knees and thank Him for this free gift and to represent Him on this earth in everything you do. I beg of you do not delay. Tomorrow may well be too late.
